  1. So, today was a long day. Monday night I made my way to my Uncle Kenny's house to spend the night because I was leaving at 2am Tuesday(today) morning. I didn't fall asleep until around 12-12:30 and woke up at around 1:30. By around 1:45 uncle Kenny, Taylor and I drove to meet up with everyone else going on this trip. Needless to say, I was nervous, but without a reason. I'm fine. I lived through the two flights and the extremely long drive that uncle Kenny insists is only four hours long. Which it wasn't. I want to say it was six hours because of traffic but I don't know if that would be right. Anyway, I slept through most of the flying and some of the drive. By the time we were, maybe an hour away from Espwa, we found out how to open the widows, and without seat belts, you could expect a few of us to act like dogs. It was refreshing and since we were out of the city, it was beautiful. The locals were hysterical, waving at us and making kissy face saw when we drove by. Of course I waved back. It's only polite. When we got to the compound, it was dark and everyone was tired. We found our rooms, learned a few things about the place, and sat on the roof for a bit. The breeze was nice and Alex showed me and a few others where everything was. When we came back down, a few people were going to bed, and somewhere sitting around talking and writing in the blog. Which is what aim doing now. If you didn't know. All in all it was an intense day, being introduced to a new country where you saw people walking around, trash surrounding their feet carrying on like it was nothing. I don't think I would be able to do that, and that realization in itself was humbling. Thinking about these people that don't have what I do. Don't get the luxury I get. It makes me sad but I know I'm here to help kids who have nothing and that makes me feel... Hopefully.

  2. The wifi wasn't working yesterday so I could post on here, but now that it is I will tell you what happened yesterday.

Yesterday was tiring. I woke up early because of the roosters. I want to eat them. It would be satisfying. Anyway, I woke up and half an hour later the girl I'm rooming with, Emily, woke up as well. So we decided to climb the latter to the roof and watch the sun rise. After breakfast we took a tour. It's bigger than I expected and the people are friendly. The girls village is my favorite. They girls are cute and nice and the little babies make me want to take them home with me. The only down side is that once you pick up a baby you cannot put them down or they will get upset. The boys village was nice. When we first met the boys try dominated us at the hand slapping game. My hands were red and hurt for 20 min after. After lunch uncle Kenny, Sandy, Alex, Matt and I took a journey to the city about 15 min away from espwa. It was chaotic. Sandy pulled me out of the store so I could see a man peeing on out car tire on the side of the road. So if you had any doubt that they did that, now you know. After dinner we watched the boys play soccer and I was jealous at how skilled they were. Then I took a show and I never felt something quite as amazing as cold water on hot skin. All in all it was a good day. The food is amazing, the people are nice and I think I'm loosing a lot of weight from how much I'm sweating. I don't think I could love here for more than a few weeks, but if I had to, it would t be so bad.

  3. Again, the wifi was a mess last night so I'll tell you what happened now.

Emily and I woke up much later than the first night which was a good thing. Right as we woke up breakfast was ready so we ate. After, we went to the girls village for a bit before we had to paint. There wasn't any room for a few of us so we went back to the girls village and got our hair braided. Taylor said I looked like eminem in the old days. -_- I liked it though. It was much cooler than having my hair all clumped together in a pony tail or hanging down. It was wicked curly after I took them out too. After lunch we had a water balloon fight then a few of us went on a walk to the edge of the compound. Then we went back to the girls village and say for a bit before going to the guest house for dinner. But dinner wasn't ready so Kathy, being the best chaperone ever, took some of us to climb a tree. Matt was the first one to get up it, followed by me. Emily and Kathy tried and both failed, falling on their butts. Or well, Kathy fell on her face. So matt and I chilled in the tree for a tiny bit and then decided to get down, which is when I fell. And everyone laughed and didn't help me up. What friends right? :P We went back for dinner and then went to play lacrosse. The boys never played lacrosse, only soccer and basketball. They tried to teach them baseball last year but they didn't like it. Lacrosse was different. They seemed to love it. I could tell they had a blast. After lacrosse we watched a rap band, Babtime. They weren't bad. After was apples to apples, then bed. It was a fun day and it made me love it here all the more. Still don't think I could live here, but if I did, I wouldn't be bored.

  4. So it's one in the afternoon and I am so tired but that's to be expected I guess. Yesterday was a long day. I woke up because of the fricken roosters again. I ended up listening to my music so I wouldn't hear them and fell back to sleep. When I woke up I had breakfast and Uncle Kenny told us who was going to mother Theresa's home for the dying. Which was intense. We had to wear something that covered our knees and shoulders. I only had my dress but my sister let me borrow her shawl so thanks Meagan! Love you! So mother Theresa's was intense but worth it. We made a few people smile. The babies didn't like us though. They were scared of us. We walked through the market after that. It smelt and it was not the kind of place I wanted to be. When we came back we had lunch. After lunch was another water balloon fight in which we lost. Again. Later I took a nap because I could and when I woke up a few of the girls were learning how to dance Haitian hip hop. Then another lacrosse game and a French version of frozen. Today I woke up because of the roosters again and I wanted to kill them. I listened to my music again and fell back to sleep. Then I watched a dead cow get beaten and skinned. I wasn't awake in time The kids only source of protein is the meat from the cow and the compound only has enough money for one a week. I wasn't there to see it get killed because I woke up too late. But I watched enough it get the gist. They ended up cutting a slit in the leg and blowing into it to puff up the cow, then hitting it to separate the skin from the meat. Gruesome I know but it's the way is Haitian life. After that we ate then went for a hike we saw some pigs. They were big piggies. One of them had little piglets and one escaped so we had to ask someone to get it back in with the mother. When the hike was over we painted another house and came back to chill. Which is were I am now. Tomorrow I will post what happened tonight and a bit of the morning before we go to the beach.
